These are some of the competencies we teach our aspiring frontrunners:
• Clear Communication: It’s challenging to direct the activities of a team, but communication skills make the task easier. That ability to get everyone on the same page and clearly define the group’s expectations and goals is a foundational leadership skill.
• Goal Setting: Once we know how to get our ideas across clearly, it’s time to refine them using the acronym SMART. This stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-sensitive. Formatting our plans this way creates unity in a team’s efforts because they know exactly why the team exists, how success is measured, and when the work needs to be done.
